1. What you're agreeing to
These Terms govern your access to and use of the StreamRift website (streamrift.app) and the StreamRift desktop application for macOS and Windows (the “App” and, together with the website, the “Service”). If you don't agree to these Terms, don't use the Service.
2. License
The StreamRift App is distributed under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify, and redistribute it subject to that license. The license text is included with every release and in the source repository.
These Terms are separate from the MIT License: the license governs your copyright permissions; these Terms govern your use of our website and distributed builds.
3. Free to use
StreamRift is free. There is no subscription, no paid tier, no in-app purchase, no account with us. If someone is charging you for it, that's not us.
4. Not affiliated with Twitch
StreamRift is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Twitch Interactive, Inc. “Twitch” and related marks are trademarks of Twitch Interactive. We use them nominatively to describe compatibility.
The App is a native client that plays streams and chat served by Twitch's public endpoints, using Twitch's standard OAuth 2.0 authentication. When you use the App you are also using Twitch's service and must comply with Twitch's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
5. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for your use of the Service, including compliance with applicable laws and with Twitch's terms.
- You may not use the App to re-host, re-broadcast, or redistribute streams in ways that violate the originating streamer's or platform's rights.
- Locally recorded clips are yours — but the content you recorded belongs to the streamer. You are responsible for respecting their rights when you share, post, or publish those recordings.
- Don't use the Service to harass, spam, or attempt to circumvent security or rate-limits of Twitch or any third party.
6. “As is” — no warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will StreamRift, its contributors, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.
Our aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose (which is zero — the Service is free) or (b) USD 100.
8. Third-party services
The App communicates with Twitch's services and with our update endpoint (updates.streamrift.app). We are not responsible for the availability, content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party service, including Twitch. Breakage caused by changes to Twitch's APIs or policies is something we'll try to fix, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted compatibility.
9. Updates and changes to the App
The App may automatically check for and install updates. Features may be added, changed, or removed over time. We aim to give advance notice of breaking changes in the Changelog, but we don't guarantee backward compatibility.
10. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time by deleting the App and closing the website. We may stop distributing the Service or discontinue it at any time without notice, at which point the MIT License still lets you keep and modify whatever build you already have.
11. Privacy
Our handling of data is described in our Privacy Policy. The short version: we don't track you.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the “Effective” date above and note the change in the Changelog. Continuing to use the Service after the update means you accept the new Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the project's maintainer resides, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Venue for any dispute lies in the courts of that jurisdiction.
